Another leftist love letter?

With Free Staters leading in the legislature on:

  • The abolition of income taxes;
  • The proliferation of gun rights;
  • The repeal of vehicle inspection mandates;
  • The expansion of school choice;
  • The strengthening of health freedom;
  • The revolution of free market energy; and
  • The advent of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency…

… it is no wonder those who value state power over human liberty keep whining about the Free State Project.

I can brag all day long about the success of the Free State Project — building liberty in our lifetimes with the most effective libertarian strategy ever pursued.

Of course, that’s my job. Why should you believe me?

The truth is no one sells the success of the Free State Project better than statists who hate seeing the “Live Free or Die” spirit restored in New Hampshire.

See for yourself. Read a few excerpts from this recent love letter from NH Democrat Representative Anita Burroughs.

“You’ve probably heard of the Free State Project — but you might not realize just how much control its followers now wield in Concord. Their libertarian ideology has spread quietly but effectively through the Legislature, shaping decisions on taxes, education, and public services.

What began as a fringe movement has become a political machine…

“While there is no official count of legislators aligned with the Free State Project or libertarian ideology, credible reporting suggests that well over half of the 221 House Republicans regularly vote with the Free State–aligned bloc

“For the 2025–2026 legislative session, this bloc has a stranglehold on the House, chairing most committees, controlling assignments, and shaping the state’s budget and policy priorities — particularly around taxeseducation, and public services

“At the top of this power structure stands House Majority Leader Jason Osborne, one of the most dominant leaders in recent memory… His authority, built through party discipline and the Free State network, ensures that a small, ideologically rigid minority can dictate the direction of our entire state. This bloc has had a sweeping impact on legislation in both the House and Senate.

“They drove the dramatic expansion of the school [choice] program… They have sought to repeal licensing and regulations for daycare, healthcare, and housing.”

As leftist allies of Rep. Anita Burroughs travel the state, rallying the aging membership of NH Democrat Committees on their anti-FSP tour, I have begun my own tour of New Hampshire.

With invitations to speak to local Republican committees across the state, I’ve enjoyed speaking about the many contributions by Free Staters to New Hampshire and taking open questions from all in attendance.

“Every state around us has fallen to progressivism: Massachusetts, Vermont, and now even Maine,” Brakey tells Nashua Republicans on Wednesday. “New Hampshire is the only Free State in New England left standing — and it is the freest state the entire United States. The Free State Project brings reinforcements to strengthen the “Live Free or Die” spirit and keep New Hampshire Free.”

My third and fourth stops on this tour, I spoke this week with two groups:

  • On Wednesday, I addressed the Nashua Republican Committee. (Thank you to Outreach Volunteer, R.J. Waldo, for snapping photos and signing-up 17 additional newsletter subscribers.)
  • On Thursday, I spoke to a joint meeting of the Hampstead-Kingston & Atkinson-Plaistow Republican Committees. (We signed up 12 additional newsletter subscribers. Unfortunately, there was no outreach volunteer available to take pictures, so you will have to take my word for it).

FSP Director Eric Brakey takes questions on a range of topics from a full house at the Nashua GOP committee meeting. The Nashua GOP Chair, John Cawthron, thanked him for attending and encouraged Republicans to accept libertarians within the broad coalition of the Republican Party because “We need each other to win.”

At both meetings, I appreciated the mix of warm welcomes and challenging questions.

Some Republicans told me how appreciative they were of the liberty migration movement countering the influence of progressive movers from Massachusetts, Connecticut and other places.

Of course, I also received some hardball questions — including skepticism on the views of Free Staters on drug prohibition.

I told them, while I cannot speak for the many and varied views of every individual Free Stater, I would share my own personal views on the matter.

Reflecting on the failures of alcohol prohibition and the rise in organized crime that resulted during that era, I told attendees that I believe the state should treat crimes and vices differently — respecting that crimes have non-consenting victims, while vices do not.

The decision not to throw people in cages for vices is not the same as condoning vice itself.

Instead, it is a recognition that protecting life, liberty, and property is the only legitimate role for the state; while preserving the morals of a society is the role of families, churches, spiritual organizations, and civic groups — institutions that are all diminished as we expand the power of the state — and which many Free Staters are actively working to restore as we reduce state power.

I look forward to many more meetings ahead as more invitations arrive each week. (Thank you to FSP Outreach Director, Pedro Serra, for connecting with local GOP chairs to arrange these outreach opportunities.)

Have you seen “Live Free or Die — Start your Journey with the Free State Project” — our new FSP Introduction Video? Thank you to Reinita Susman for producing the video.

We launched the video last week, alongside our new and improved FSP.org website. (Thank you to Miranda Animus, Brian Becker, and Ben Roth for their leadership designing and building the new website.)

It’s not enough to want liberty to win — the Free State community also needs the skills to make it happen.

This past Saturday, over 50 liberty activists (from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, and New Jersey) joined us in Concord, NH for a full day political leadership school.

Thank you to FSP Outreach Director, Pedro Serra, for organizing the logistics of the event and inviting so many activists to join us.

Thank you to Chanel Prunier of the Foundation for Applied Conservative Leadership for flying up from Florida to instruct this crash course on the Real Nature of Politics.

This Saturday and Sunday, I will be leaving the Free State and speaking to Libertarian Party State Conventions in two low-freedom states:

Our goal is with these outreach opportunities is to connect with liberty lovers and sign them up for our newsletter — so we can invite them to come visit Free State events all year-long in New Hampshire.

At the FSP, our job is fishing for people — those who share liberty values and want to live free. Here is exactly how we do it:

  • The more people learn, the more they connect.
  • The more people connect, the more they visit.
  • The more people visit, the more they move.
  • The more people move, the more they build.
  • The more people build, the faster liberty wins.

I look forward to connecting with more future Free Staters this weekend in Maine and Connecticut.

Jason Sorens: New Hampshire’s Great Housing Battle of 2025

In a major 2025 victory for housing freedom in New Hampshire, the Republican-led legislature passed 17 pro-supply bills—led by FSP founder Jason Sorens’ zoning reform blueprint—despite fierce NIMBY opposition and wild accusations labeling Free Staters “Bolsheviks” pushing “rape trailers.” Key wins include HB577 (one ADU per lot by right), SB284 (nation’s strongest parking cap at one space per unit), SB282 (four-story single-stair buildings), and HB631 (streamlined commercial-to-residential conversions), all aimed at reversing a 32% rent surge since 2020 and a 0.77% vacancy rate. These deregulatory reforms, backed by bipartisan coalitions, could boost permitting by 20%, proving libertarian principles in action: cut red tape, build more, and let markets deliver abundance for families and newcomers alike.

Carla Gericke: Who Are These Maniacs for Freedom? (Spoiler: We’re Winning.)

If you believe in limited government and unlimited human potential, it’s time to sign the pledge and help make New Hampshire the beacon of liberty it was born to be. Plus: updates from Josiah Bartlett’s Libertas Dinner, a brief breakdown of the First Amendment XX wristband case that’s testing free speech in real time, and more Granite-flavored truth bombs. 🎥 Tune in, share, and remember: the revolution for peaceful independence starts right here, right now, in the Free State.

Porcupine Report #88: “The Fall of Maine” with Jaime Hussey

Eric welcomes Jaime Hussey, a new mover to New Hampshire and a passionate Free Stater from Maine. Jaime shares how her frustration with Maine’s increasing government control—from the loss of vaccine exemptions to red flag gun laws—led her family to join the Free State movement. Now deeply involved in New Hampshire’s liberty community, she helps lead the “Pal” welcome program and supports outreach to Mainers ready to make the move. Together, she and Eric discuss Maine’s political decline, the strength of New Hampshire’s free society, and the vibrant liberty communities forming across the state, including the new “Pine” clubhouse in the North Country. This episode is a heartfelt call to action for freedom-lovers everywhere: vote with your feet and help build liberty in our lifetimes.
